地理位置 bridges the 社会 and natural sciences, and provides geospatial analyses of environmental and socio-经济 problems. Geographers are among the government officials, 社区领袖, 积极分子, 研究人员, and business people who use data-driven research to develop solutions to complex environmental, 社会, 经济, 政治问题.

 

The 地理位置 Program provides a foundation for understanding human-environment problems and implementing equitable solutions. We offer opportunities for engagement in environmental, 社会 justice and ethical issues through applied research and learning in the 丹佛 Metropolitan Area, 及以后. The 地理位置 program is housed in the Department of 地球与大气科学 at the Metropolitan State University of 丹佛. We are located on the Auraria campus in downtown 丹佛. As of Spring 2021, the GIS certificate and GIS minor can be completed fully online. Please contact us for more information.

Geographers are among the government officials, 社区领袖, 积极分子, 研究人员, and business people who use data-driven research to develop solutions to complex environmental, 社会, 经济, 政治问题. 地理位置 is unique in bridging the 社会 sciences and the natural sciences, and in providing geospatial analyses of environmental and socio-经济 problems. The program provides a foundation for understanding problems and implementing equitable solutions to improve the quality of human-environment dynamics. 参与环保工作, 社会 justice and ethical issues is facilitated through applied research and learning in the 丹佛 Metropolitan Area. The 地理位置 curriculum combines fundamental courses in natural and 社会 systems and geospatial science with specialized electives within four disciplinary sub-fields – Political Economy Approaches to Sustainability, 地理信息科学, 自然地理, 和规划. Students have flexibility in choosing courses and pursuing their areas of interest. The major prepares students for professional careers in both the private and public sectors as well as for graduate studies.

The mission of the 地理位置 Program is to: 

1. Provide a multidisciplinary education guided by multi-scale geographical approaches that emphasize human-environment interactions, 可持续性, 空间分析, and solutions to socio-经济 and environmental inequities;
2. Facilitate students’ community engagement in environmental, 社会 justice and ethical issues through research and learning in the 丹佛 Metropolitan Area;
3. Develop problem solving skills through critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration.
